BBC features Focus SB on national news
It was no ordinary day on Friday 16th February when a rather unusual enquiry landed in the Focus SB sales office email inbox; it transpired that our recent feature in The Telegraph had caught the eye of BBC senior broadcast journalist, Ramzan Karmali.
The BBC was seeking to feature firms who have contributed to UK economic growth, so ticking all the boxes, filming was swiftly organised for the following Monday on location at our St Leonards on Sea factory.
Broadcast content was to centre around recently published data from the Office for National Statistics, which reports the UK has seen the strongest productivity growth over the last six months since the 2008 recession and wage inflation in the UK. Our series of major investments in our production facility, recent expansion, 3% pay increase and plans to export to China now a reality, meant we offered the perfect example of a company showing resilience in the face of forthcoming Brexit.
“Bring on the robots!” Kamal Ahmed’s report on the 6pm broadcast highlighted the boost to productivity following our investment in a robot cell and the positive impact this has already had on the company. More products, made more quickly, means more wealth; offering more prospects, opportunities to reward employees, and a more secure future. Confident interviewees punctuated the feature with contributions from our managing director, Gary Stevens, as well as supervisor Val Chandler, and quality, health and safety manager, Mick Hindle - all making their TV screen debuts, along with Focus SB’s new robot!
