QUARTER OF A CENTURY OF SERVICE CELEBRATED IN STYLE

In 1984 the miners strike was in full swing, the pound note was fazed out and Virgin Atlantic had its inaugural flight.

For six St Leonards locals, it was their first day in their new jobs at the Napier Road based electrical accessories manufacturer Focus SB, back then known as Sussex Brassware.

The new company was formed in 2001 from the merger of Sussex Brassware and Focus Electrical Ltd.

Sales Manager for London, South East England and South, Barry Partridge, fondly remembers the day he reminded Managing Director, Roger Kemp of his dedicated years of service: “Around the time the big 25 was due, I dug out a copy of my original contract of employment and left it on Roger’s desk with a note asking him where the time had gone.

“Not expecting much other than a cheeky reply, Roger very kindly booked my wife and I into the Chewton Glen Hotel and Spa to be pampered for the weekend.”

Each year, all six members of the club are given an allowance to treat themselves to a bit of a jolly, some opt for an extra days holiday as Roger Kemp says: “We are a very close knit company and I am extremely grateful to all my employees, but especially those who have put up with me for so long!

“It is a great sign of how dedicated these six are that they are still as passionate about our products and our vision some 25 years later.”

FOCUS REPORTS SUCCESS OF OLED LIGHTING SYSTEM LAUNCH AT INTERIORS 2010

(Birmingham NEC, 27th January 2010) Focus SB has reported a tremendous response to the launch of its OLED 4 Scene Recaller, the first in a new generation of Control Plates that utilises the latest Organic LED Display technology designed to fit into a single gang back box.

Visitors to Interiors 2010 expressed particular interest in the new product’s modular design, according to Focus SB’s Managing Director Roger Kemp: “This enables it to be built-up from a switching and dimming operation, to a ‘global control’ that can operate all lighting circuits within a building,” he says.

The system can also be operated and programmed using the infrared handset. The four buttons have an icon (or text) that describe the lighting ‘mood’.

OLED builds on the success of Focus SB’s Home Automated Lighting System (HAL) which was introduced at the beginning of 2009 in response to demand for an easy to use, simple to install and fully integrated device. The new technology can be used with most of the decorative plates from Focus SB’s extensive range.

PRICE INCREASES

Please note that as of 1st April 2010 there will be a 7.5% price increase across the Focus SB range.

Wise Controls will be subject to a price increase from the 1st May 2010.

HAL CONTROL PANEL GOES GRAPHIC!

In early 2010 Focus will be launching a control plate incorporating an OLED screen for it’s HAL lighting and building control system. This will make the system easier to use by the incorporation of a range graphics to represent the room/use.

THE NATIONAL HOME IMPROVEMENT SHOW

CHROME IPOD DOCK ADDS A TOUCH OF CLASS TO IPOD OWNERS STEREO

For the music lover with almost everything…the engraved iPod, the Bang and Olufsen stereo…here is one accessory everyone should have: a chrome-plated iPod dock. Focus SB, has created the new piece in collaboration with in-house designer Terri McConnell. Each dock, complete with remote control, has the designer’s signature, and will be engraved with the number in the run, limited to the first 50. The docks come with a remote that allows users to change the volume or select a new song/album or artist. These limited edition docks are £90 each (including VAT and delevery) and can be purchased from Focus by telephoning their sales office on 01424 858060. Focus SB is also offering customers the opportunity to have docks engraved with their own company name, logo or message for a one off £10 additional charge (minimum order 20 units).

PRISM 2 IS CLEARLY DIFFERENT

The new Prism2 clear acrylic wiring accessory range, from Focus SB, has incorporated a clip fixing system to avoid the requirement for screw fixing. This innovative design offers the market a discreet see-through look, which complements the client’s chosen style of décor. This plate puts the emphasis on the wall covering rather than on the accessory itself. HAL MAKES HOME AUTOMATED LIGHTING A PIECE OF CAKE

Focus SB has just introduced the HAL Home Automated Lighting system to its extensive product portfolio, to provide a very simple digital lighting control solution for scene setting, dimming and switching applications. With the ever increasing costs of energy, HAL can actually reduce the running costs and prolong lamp life, even interfacing with motion and daylight detectors to further reduce operational costs. >More information.
