Poundbury Royal Pavilion, Dorset

Focus SB is delighted to be selected to manufacture and supply electrical accessories for the Royal Pavilion at Poundbury.

Poundbury is an urban extension to the County town of Dorchester built on land owned by the Duchy of Cornwall and has been designed according to the principles set out in HRH Prince of Wales Vision of Britain.

Royal Pavilion is one of the centrepieces of the new development set in the main square of Poundbury known as Queen Mother Square. The building consists of 20 luxury apartments designed in a classically inspired style complete with a stone colonnade. The accommodation brings a level of luxury more associated with Knightsbridge rather than the heart of rural Dorset.

Set around a private piazza, Royal Pavilion's collection of 20 apartments was designed by Ben Pentreath a London-based architect who specialises in buildings that seamlessly fit into their environment. Named after one of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother’s racehorses, Royal Pavilion also borrows lineage from the famous seaside retreat built at Brighton in 1787 for the Prince Regent.

The Horizon Square faceplate style was selected in polished chrome with black inserts and trimless rocker switches for a more minimalist ‘all metal’ look. The classic yet contemporary design of these plates perfectly reflects the style of the Royal Pavilion. Many bespoke plates were manufactured to match the Horizon Square standard plates. The comfort and convenience of the residents were carefully considered at every stage of the design and subsequent electrical installation.

Light switches used toggle switches and bespoke lighting control plates used combinations of dimmers, toggle and rocker switches. 13 amp sockets with USB ports were installed throughout, and special multi-gang lighting plates were manufactured and engraved for convenience for use in the kitchen. AV and data outlets were also installed where required. Bespoke flat metal plates were manufactured for the i-Light lighting control systems to ensure complete continuity of style and finish throughout the project.

Focus SB worked closely with the interior designer and electrical contractor, Barry Partridge, sales manager at Focus SB explains, “It is always very useful if we can get involved at the design stage to offer advice and make suggestions, in order to help make sure the electrical accessories provide everything the discerning luxury home buyer demands.”

Partridge adds, “It was a pleasure to work with the designers, in the early stages of the specification process and later with the electrical contractors Oldland M&E Services, to iron out the installation issues and deliver the highest standard of electrical accessories.”
